Good morning!
Overall, I would say I’m a pretty active person. I go to the gym fairly regularly, work with my trainer (and friend) Janice once a week, I play in a weekly beach volleyball league year-round (indoor beach volleyball in the winter!), and I occasionally opt to take the stairs instead of an escalator (provided my heels aren’t particularly uncomfortable that day). I’m no Jane Fonda, but I make an effort and enjoy it. But one thing I don’t enjoy is running. I want to love it. I know it would be good for me. But I just don’t.

Here are some of the reasons I don’t enjoy it:
1. If I’m going to run, it’s going to be to because I’m excited to get to something fun….like a party…..or an ice cream truck…not to have my ultimate destination be exactly where I started.
2. You would think that running would provide the perfect opportunity to mull over all the things happening in your life. But I have a hard time engaging in my own thoughts while I run, and get bored. All I can think about when I run is how uncomfortable I am, and how much I want to stop running. I don’t get in “a zone”.
3. I would prefer to be with people when I work out, which is why I like team sports. Yes, you CAN run with someone else, but it’s not the same as engaging with a bigger group.

Despite the negativity above, I will say that I do feel great after I run. And I do love a challenge. Which is why…
I signed up to run a 5K at the end of August.
Yes, after all this complaining about running, I’m forcing myself to run a 5K. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more with a big group? And I know I work better with a goal, so there you have it. However, since I am torturing challenging myself, I feel like I need the right outfit and gear to do it. Gotta get something fun out of it right? So here is what I’m thinking…
Under Armour Charm Tank Top, Puma watch, Tifosi Wisp Sunglasses, Amphipod Full Tilt Velocity water bottle, Lulu Lemon Speed Short *Nakedseam, Reebok Women’s Realflex Run
Cute huh? Well, for a running outfit anyway. Maybe it will help me finish the race like this…

But I most likely will end it like this…..

Have I mentioned I haven’t even started training yet? Ya, gotta get on that.
For all you runners out there….do you have any tips for me??
XO,
Good for you!!!!
I strongly recommend the Ta-Ta Tamer bra by Lululemon!! This is the ONLY bra I’ve found that provides enough support for me. They’re sized like regular bras instead of crappy ol’ sm/med/lg and they also come in as small as 32 for the band when anything D or larger always seems to start no smaller than 34.. very frustrating!
and I forgot to add that the Ta-Ta Tamers are specifically made for bigger busted ladies! It comes in sizes C-DD!
You’ve mentioned your “ladies” a couple of times on the blog so a great sports bra was my first thought I had if you’re taking up running
A doctor once said that a person is born with a certain number of heart beats and he could never understand why anyone would choose to use them up running. Another doctor was serious when he advised that running is very hard on one’s knees over time and the baby boomers will pay a painfull price prior to having their knees replaced. Cycling is a better alternative to running.
Obviously the reason the girl collapsed on the track was because she was not wearing your proposed outfit. It would have kept her afloat.
I get bored very easily, so I like to go running on routes through neighborhoods that are new to me, or in a direction I wouldn’t normally take. I find I’m so preoccupied by gawking that time flies!
Yay, good for you Lindsey! I have to admit I hated running at first for all the reasons you mention. I started gradually and am not sure when I changed my mind and realized I was actually “wanting” to go for a run!! It probably helps that I have two kids to run FROM…
Which race did you sign up for?
Good for you with the running! I am attempting to train for a 10 k run sometime this fall…still unsure. Anyway, there is a great app “couch to 5k” available which has really helped me. I listen to music on my phone and in the background there is a voice telling me to run or walk- building up slowly to be able to master the 5k distance. It is really great because it starts you off slow so you build up confidence and endurance.
It really works and takes about nine weeks from start to finish.
