Fashion Friday: Finally Spring

Good Morning!

Happy Friday all! It is finally starting to feel like spring so today’s fashion Friday outfit is full of light and airy pieces.

Spring Summer

I am normally not a fan of the jumpsuit (mostly because you have to get half-naked to go to the bathroom) but I think this one is pretty cute.  And no it’s not quite sandal weather here in Toronto but a girl can dream, right?  You can find the details of the pieces here on my Polyvore.

Have a good day!

Arizona Vacation Outfits

Good Afternoon!

Although the first day of spring has come and gone, it’s still very grey and winter-y here in the T-Dot.  However, that makes me even more excited to get on a plane tomorrow for Arizona.  It looks like it will be 30+ for much of time I’m there. Ah-mazing! I’m generally a terrible packer, and don’t expect this time will be much different, but I have been thinking about outfits for the trip.  Below I’ve put together three outfits ideas that (hopefully) will help guide my packing tonight!

Day of Exploring/Shopping

Arizona Outfit #1

Relaxing by the Pool

Arizona Outfit #2

Out for Dinner

Arizona Outfit #3

All product information can be found on my Polyvore pages 1, 2, 3

These could work, right?  Do I own any of these items?  No. Do I own anything like them? Maaaybe.  If I could pack directly from Polyvore life would be much easier. But it has given me a little inspiration for the looming task.

Have a great day!

Valentine’s Day Outfit

Good Morning!

Happy St. Valentine’s Day to all.  This isn’t a holiday I would say that I actively observe , nor do I have anything particularly exciting planned for the day (unless eating cinnamon heart until my tongue bleeds can be considered “plans”). However, since the day is here and I figure there is no way to totally ignore it I’ve put together a V-day themed outfit for a casual Friday at work.

Valentine's Day

(Click on the image above to see all the sources on my Polyvore page).

Distressed jeans are back, and I’m a fan of the trend.  Those flats are very pretty, and even a V-day cynic like me can admit that the heart sweatshirt just screams cute and fun.  I mean a girl can dress the part even if she’s not feeling the vibe, right?  Yes she can.

I hope you all have a great day full of love, (and more importantly) candy and chocolate!

High and Low: Black Crossbody Purses

Good Morning!

I am in the market for a new black purse and I’m leaning towards a crossbody purse.  When this trend first came around I was skeptical, partly because so many of them were “mini” purses and really looked more like wallets with the strap.  That being said, having used larger purses over the years, I’m getting sick of having too much space in my purses and constantly losing things in the great abyss, so to speak.  So, I’m leaning toward something larger than the mini crossbody, but not too large.  A purse that can fit my wallet, phone, and a few other small items.

For example, this one would be too small….

While this size is just right….

Also, the crossbody strap is pretty practical – true “no hands” functionality so that if you are carrying other things you know your bag won’t fall off your shoulder or arm.  An added bonus for sure. I’ve put together a little high-low round-up of black crossbody purses.  The “highs” are greater than $200, while the lows are less than $200.  crossbody bags copy High (clockwise from top left) – Elizabeth & James Leather Mini Crossbody bag, J. Crew Goodwinn purse, Loeffler Randall Crossbody – Mini Rider, Opelle Baby Botanist

Low (clockwise from top left) – 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target® Top Handle Crossbody, Lodis Accessories Olympic Blvd Sloane Chain Crossbody, Pieces Diana Boxy Across Body Bag (Via Asos.com), Mango Metal fastening cross body bag

This really does prove that there are some decent inexpensive versions of the crossbody purse.  My PURSE-onal fave in the high category (see what I did right there??) is the Opelle Baby botanist.  It isn’t cheap but it’s made by a Canadian company (buy local) and I’ve touched their bags (they were at the One of a Kind Show this year) and the leather is beautiful and the designs are amazing.  In the low category, I think I would go with the Pieces Diana bag because it has a little added texture….then again none of these would be in the round-up if I didn’t like them, so all of them get my approval.

How do you like the crossbody purse?

Fashion Friday: Classic Red Coat

Good Morning!

I have been feeling bored with my black wool coat and have been considering getting another one with some colour.  And maybe it’s the holiday season, but I’ve been really drawn to red lately.  And what is more classic than a red wool coat?  It makes a bold statement but still has an air of conservatism.  Just take a look below…

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Right?  Totally beautiful.  And here is a round-up of a few that I would love to have….if I had a million-bajillion dollars.

Fashion Friday: Winter PJ’s & giveaway winner!

Good Morning!

It’s fashion friday around here, but before I get into my round-up for this week, We have a winner of the $50 credit from Minted!  I’ve compiled the list of entries and using Random.org a winner was selected….drum roll please….

Winner - Random ….Meredith S!  Congrats to you! You’ll be hearing from me soon!

Now back to fashion.  I don’t know about you but now that it is getting dark before 5 pm (ugh) and it’s starting to get colder, I find myself wanting to spend more time at home curled up in my PJ’s. Now typically for sleeping I like to have thinner pajama’s because I tend to get very warm when I sleep. But for lounging around the house in the depths of Canadian winter, I like having a cozier pair kicking around.  So today I’ve rounded up some cute pairs of  cozy PJ’s that could work for this purpose.

Jammy's copy

Clockwise from top left:  Juicy Coutour Jazzy Floral PJs via Revolve Clothing, J. Crew End-on-end pajama set in swiss dot, South Beach Victoria Super Soft Multi Stripe Onesie via ASOS, Tiptoe on the Tile Pajamas from ModCloth, Juicy Coutour Flannel Nightshirt via Revolve Clothing, C. Wonder Twinkle Twinkle Star Pajama Set

If it were for the peeing part I would be all over the onesie PJs. But I’m also really liking the flannel nightshirt.

Which ones would you like to lounge around in?

F/W 2014 Shopping Challenge – Day (gasp!) 43

Good Morning!

Alright,  it’s fess up time.  I’m 2 days away from target date of 45 days to complete my shopping challenge and I’m not finished. I’ve only purchased 2 measly item since my last update – and it’s unlikely that I’ll get everything in the next 2 days. In fairness, when I set the 45 days I forgot about my parents coming to town for a week during the challenge. And although my mom and I did a little shopping while they were here, I had little luck with my last 8 items.  Not that it’s an excuse. Not at all.  I failed.  However, from failure comes resilience…as is outlined perfectly in this excerpt from one of my favorite movies of all time, Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown.

So, I shall set a new goal of 55 days and make it count!  I mean it’s my own challenge so I can do whatever I want, but I like to stay accountable, you know?  But on the topic of doing what I want…I am going to make some revisions.  Firstly, I’ve changed pencil skirt to pencil skirt or dress (x2).  I haven’t found many pencil skirts that I like but I’ve found MANY dresses I like.  And I’m a dress person.  Why buy a skirt I “kind of” like, when I could buy a dress I love? I’ve also changed t-shirt to t-shirt or sweater (x2).  I realized I need some new sweaters too and since I’ve already got one t-shirt why not add sweater? (Also, I already bought a sweater instead).  Here is my progress:

THE LIST - Update 3 - Day 43 copy

I added this sweater from the Banana Republic Factory store.  You can’t tell from the picture but there is a tiny pattern in the wool which I like a lot.

And this green blazer from Le Chateau.  Fun colour, good cut and ON SALE. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And that is it.  Budget update?  At least I’m doing well in that respect:

These 2 items:  $134.31

Previous total:  $642.83

Remaining:  $722.58

As you can see I’m struggling with the shoes. It’s hard to find comfort, quality and style.  But I’ll keep trying!  Until the next update…..

F/W 2013 Shopping Challenge Update – Day 29

Good Morning!

I’ve got a little update on my shopping challenge today.  Actually, since my last post on my progress I’ve made a little change to my list.  I originally said I wanted new flat black boots.  And lord knows the ones I have are more than a little worn out.  But then I started thinking about why they are so worn out and it is because I wear them all the time in ALL types of weather.  I did protect them really well with leather protector, it can only do so much against the  elements.  Winter is rapid approaching and so I’m going to be wearing boots alot and given that the ones I have are still so comfortable not quite TOO embarrassingly worn out to be wearing still, I’m going to keep them for the time being. I will admit that this decision is also based on the fact that I am  finding it impossible to find a black leather boot that I like for under $550.  And if I’m going to pay that much for boots (which wasn’t really on the table), I’d basically only wear them in perfect conditions which is totally unrealistic. So, I decided to replace the black flat boot with a short black heeled bootie.   This is a shoe that I don’t currently have in my closet but that is a versatile option that I can wear with a dress, skirt or pants.  How very practical of so unlike me, right? I thought so.

Now, back to the update.  I’ve definitely made some progress , but I have to admit I thought I would be pretty much done by now.  I originally was going to make this a 30-day challenge.  Good thing I didn’t!  Anyhoo, here is my progress since my last update:

THE LIST - Update 2

1. Navy Blue Pants – H&M.   Good cut, great price.  Win-win for a basic piece.

2. Short Black Heeled Bootie – Parita by Enzo Angeolini from Nine West -  I find that sometime booties can make my leg look choppy when they are straight across at the top.  Which is why I loved this one with the lovely slope down the front.  Very flattering.  And I can wear them with almost anything.

bootie

3. Turtleneck from H &M – Lightweight and fitted, exactly what I needed.

turtleneck

4.  Joe Fresh B&W Sweater Dress

sweater dress

And how am I doing on my budget? Well, luckily I’ve been able to save on some things so I’m not doing too badly:

These 4 items:  $303.95

Previous total:  $338.88

Remaining: $857.17

I am still doing ok but ideally I would like to come in under budget as much as possible and I still have 8 items remaining. I’m going to have to be strategic in what I spend on which items.  The blazers are going to be tough I think.  I haven’t found many I like so far that aren’t expensive.  But all part of the challenge right?

Have a great Friday!

Searching: Claspy Thingy Wallet

Good Morning Lovelies!

I’m in the market for a new wallet, but there’s a catch.  I want one with where the change purse part of the wallet closes with one of those endearing clasps.  Maybe this is because my mother always had one like that when I was growing up.  Or maybe it’s because it reminds me of pretty clutches that have the same closure.  But the bottom line is, I’m just not supporting the zipper closure on the change purse of a wallet anymore.  I know what you are thinking….what a huge stance you are taking on such an important issue!  I really am so political.  All joking aside, when I started searching I realized finding a wallet with this feature would be much harder than I expected.  However, after searching for “metal clasp wallet”, “metal snap change purse wallet”, and “wallet with metal claspy thingy”, I did figure out what the “feature” is called…..a kiss lock or a kiss clasp!  And when you think about it, the two interlocking metal balls DO look like they are making out a little, right?  So a completely accurate name.

Once I had the name of the feature correct, it got slightly easier to find….but not much.  Apparently these wallets just aren’t that common (damn you zippered pocket), but there are a couple of companies that seem to still be embracing the kiss-lock.  Two in particular that have a good selection of nice looking kiss-lock wallets are Ted Baker and Hobo Bags.  But for the most part they were few and far between.  The ones I did find that I liked are below.

Hobo Bags Rachael Wallet

ASOS Frame and Ball Purse/Wallet

Charlotte Russe – Crocodile Kiss-Lock Wallet

ZAC Zac Posen Large Wallet

Ted Baker ‘Minkie Bobble Matinee’ Ostrich Wallet

Are you a kiss-lock girl or a zipper girl (or guy)?
