Fashion Friday: High-Low Draped Fall Coat

Good Afternoon!

It’s a beautiful fall day in Toronto, and we’re on the verge of the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend and there is lots to be thankful for.  For today’s Fashion Friday I’m looking at draped fall coats.  I need a fall coat and, for a long time I was set on investing in a trench coat. But I have changed my mind for 2 reasons: my boobs.  It seems that no matter what brand I try on, the trenches are too tight across my chest, but if I go up a size the rest of the coat is swimming on me.  I have decided it’s just not the best coat for me and I’m moving on….to, you guessed it, draped front coats.  I’ve sharing some very expensive (and super gorgeous) versions as well as some excellent affordable (under $250) options for you today.

In the high category, I’m in love with the burgundy Burberry blanket coat in the bottom left.  But I have to say there are some fab options in the low category.  My personal faves are the grey-blue ombre one from BB Dakota and the mauve-pink one from ASOS.  Click on the photos above to see the details and prices for all of these coats from my Polyvore sets.
Have a great weekend!

Fall Outfits in Aubergine & Cream

Good Morning!

The temperatures here in Toronto are dropping and it’s really beginning to feel like fall.  And I’m actually OK with it. Sure, I miss the hazy days of summer, but I enjoy being outside with a couple of extra layers and a nip in the air. I’m just hoping this doesn’t mean an early winter. Today I’ve put together fall outfits in aubergine and cream.  I’m definitely not 100% ready for the deep and dark palettes of winter, but I love all the deep purples and reds that come out in the fall.  So, to keep it fresh and light I paired the aubergine with cream.  And I’ve put together both a casual and dressy look in this lovely colour palette.

Of course, my favourite item is the Burberry cape. My mother has always said I have a knack for picking the most expensive thing in a store.  Sadly, this one is not in my budget.  But perhaps someday! You can find info on all the items and where to buy them here.
Do you have some favourite fall outfits or colour combinations?

Fashion Friday: Fall-Winter 2014 Trends I Can Pull Off

Hello!

For the last week its felt A LOT like fall here in Toronto.  I’m not happy or ready for it to be fall but since it feels like fall, why not plan for fall?  And today I’m talking fall fashion.  I’m not particularly fashion forward and I don’t buy into every trend that comes around but there are a few every season that fit with my style and I feel like I can get on side with.  Over the last few months the fall fashion trends have been circulating and I’ve discovered a few fall/winter trends that I’m liking and that I could pull off.  Despite not feeling ready to wear them quite yet…..

STRAP HAPPY SHOES

Shoe trends are the most common for me to latch onto because they are an accessory. Easy way to add a little sumpin’ sumpin’  to any outfit without worrying about whether it suits my body type.  Plus my shoes size doesn’t change and my body size often does.  And I love a little extra interest on a shoe, like the ankle strapped ones that are trending for fall.

THE MIDI DRESS

This trend can be a tricky one.  This isn’t a dress length you can pull off with short legs. Even if you are above average in height like me (5’8′ ish) you still need to rock heels with this kind of dress to not have it make you look shorter.  But with the right cut it is a very chic way to pull of a sexy yet conservative look.

SHEARLING

OK fine, this may be pushing it for early fall but in late November this is one trend I’m liking.  Warm, cozy and cute.  Am I ready to wear it now?  Hells no. But when the time comes, it’s hard to go wrong with this trend.

Sweet Shearling
I’m sure a few more trends will come around that I might want to try out as well get closer to fall….but this is a good start.  You can see some of my other outfit ideas on my Polyvore.

Anchor’s Away

Good Morning!

I just got back from a week with my family at our cottage in New Brunswick.  My cottage is pretty much my favourite place on the planet, and I always hate to leave. While I did get lots done for my #oakpointporchproject while I was there (post coming soon!), I’m now back to real life and already miss the smell of the ocean air . Sigh.

Now, when I think of the ocean I often think of nautical. And what is the classic symbol of nautical?  Most certainly the anchor. Today I’m sharing a little anchor themed round-up.  From home décor to jewelry, there is no shortage of adorable anchor-donned products. I hope you enjoy!

anchors away!

While I love all of these items my favourites have to be the bottle opener and the adorable earrings.  So great.  You can find this round-up and more fashion ensembles here on my Polyvore.

Fashion Friday: Summer Weekend

Good Morning!

I’m pretty sure I have mentioned this before,  but I find casual outfits difficult.  Let me re-phase that. I find NICE casual outfits difficult. I work in an office and have lots of dresses that are dressier and more corporate, and then I have LOTS of SUPER-casual clothes such as sweatpants (love) and workout clothes. I’m just not great at dressing in the middle.  I’m a dress person, so the summer is a bit easier as the weather allows for casual dresses. Now the the outfit I’ve put together today isn’t totally causal (baby steps people, baby steps) but it could work for a summer party, or dinner with friends on a patio.

Summer Weekend

I love the fun pattern in the skirt paired with the bright tank.  And then the sandals and bag really add the casual feel to it.  If you want to see the details of this outfit (or any others) you can find them here on my Polyvore.

What are your go to summer casual pieces?

Summer Jumpsuit Round-Up

 Good Morning!

So, let’s talk jumpsuits.  Or rompers, onesies,  playsuits (which I personally think sounds creepy), whatever you want to call them.  My first experience with a jumpsuit was 4 years ago. I bought a black one from H&M.  It was ok, but the cut was strange.  The crotch hung too low.  Now, this was around the time when the “harem” pant or more commonly known as the “MC Hammer” pant, made a brief (thank goodness) comeback, so maybe that is why these hung too low.  But regardless,  it wasn’t quite right.

My other, slightly more personal and neurotic issue with the jumpsuit is having to pee topless. Yes, I’m behind closed doors when I’m doing my biz, but it still feels odd to be topless while doing it. However, recently I’ve been noticing some great jumpsuits on the market.  Ones that are have a slimmer leg, with crotch lengths that are reasonable, and that definitely are not too billow-y.  Here are a few good ones I found that just might just get me over my fear of being topless in a bathroom stall…..maybe.

I love the patterned plunge neck line one, which sadly I could NEVER wear without looking indecent. Also, that bright blue one is great. The ruched bit on the cropped pant is a lovely detail.

How do you feel about the jumpsuit?

Fashion Friday: Cat-eye Sunnies

Good Morning!

I need a new pair of sunglasses this year and I’m really liking the cat-eye shape.  Not the over-the-top 1960’s cat-eye, but the more subtle versions that I’ve been seeing around.  Sunglasses (and regular glasses for that matter) are always a challenge for me because I have a really narrow face so 90% of sunglasses look ginormous on me.  And not in the cool over-sized shades way….more like the “my glasses are eating my head” way. That being said, I’d like to find a smallish version of the cat-eye for this summer.  So, today I’ve put together a little save and splurge round-up of some cat-eyes sunglasses.

From Top to Bottom: Minkpink Candy Land Cat-Eye Sunglasses,Vince Camuto Cat-eye Sunglasses, Armani Exchange Cat-eye Sunglasses,  Valentino Rockstud-Temple Cat-Eye Sunglasses,  Marc Jacobs Glitter Stripe Sunglasses, Stella McCartney Cat-eye Sunglasses

I typically don’t spend much money on sunglasses. I tend to find the nicest pair under $30 and treat them badly until either they get so scratched it’s embarrassing to wear them, or I leave them somewhere.  However, I do think perhaps my lack of care of them is because they are so cheap.  I haven’t invested any money in them so why would worry about their condition?  I’m thinking about potentially investing in a nice pair this year, on the assumption that if I pay more I’ll take better care of them!

Do you splurge or save on sunglasses?

Fashion Friday: Finally Spring

Good Morning!

Happy Friday all! It is finally starting to feel like spring so today’s fashion Friday outfit is full of light and airy pieces.

Spring Summer

I am normally not a fan of the jumpsuit (mostly because you have to get half-naked to go to the bathroom) but I think this one is pretty cute.  And no it’s not quite sandal weather here in Toronto but a girl can dream, right?  You can find the details of the pieces here on my Polyvore.

Have a good day!

Arizona Vacation Outfits

Good Afternoon!

Although the first day of spring has come and gone, it’s still very grey and winter-y here in the T-Dot.  However, that makes me even more excited to get on a plane tomorrow for Arizona.  It looks like it will be 30+ for much of time I’m there. Ah-mazing! I’m generally a terrible packer, and don’t expect this time will be much different, but I have been thinking about outfits for the trip.  Below I’ve put together three outfits ideas that (hopefully) will help guide my packing tonight!

All product information can be found on my Polyvore pages 1, 2, 3

These could work, right?  Do I own any of these items?  No. Do I own anything like them? Maaaybe.  If I could pack directly from Polyvore life would be much easier. But it has given me a little inspiration for the looming task.

Have a great day!

Valentine’s Day Outfit

Good Morning!

Happy St. Valentine’s Day to all.  This isn’t a holiday I would say that I actively observe , nor do I have anything particularly exciting planned for the day (unless eating cinnamon heart until my tongue bleeds can be considered “plans”). However, since the day is here and I figure there is no way to totally ignore it I’ve put together a V-day themed outfit for a casual Friday at work.

Valentine's Day

(Click on the image above to see all the sources on my Polyvore page).

Distressed jeans are back, and I’m a fan of the trend.  Those flats are very pretty, and even a V-day cynic like me can admit that the heart sweatshirt just screams cute and fun.  I mean a girl can dress the part even if she’s not feeling the vibe, right?  Yes she can.

I hope you all have a great day full of love, (and more importantly) candy and chocolate!
