Inspired by Effie Trinket

Good Morning!

Are there any fans of the Hunger Games out there? If so, have you caught a peek at the “Capitol Portraits” that were released last week for Catching Fire?  Well, if not, you should.  And as always, my favourite of the Capitol crazies, Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks), looks amazingly wild but quite lovely, especially in this deep pink ruffled Alexander McQueen dress. Perfect for her. How can you not love pink ruffles?

I liken Effie to (a more polished) Helena Bonham-Carter at any awards show. Always eccentric, over-the-top, and rarely wearing anything you would touch with a ten foot pole.  But you still would be highly disappointed if she wore something more traditional. The difference is that Helena Bonham-Carter looks disheveled so often, while Effie has everything just so. Anyhow, I just love her panache! So much so that I put together a little mood board of some Effie-Inspired home decor items….

Effie Trinket Home decor

  1. Baroque Mirror from Instyle-Decor
  2. Furbish Studio Pink and Gold Lacquer Bowl (no longer available)
  3. Bonnie and Neil Table Runner Watercolor Pink
  4. Pink Croc Table Lamp from Pure Home
  5. William Yeoward Avington Tableware
  6. NSW Leather Co. Pink Hide Rug
  7. Land of Nod Ruffled Pillow

I adore that table runner and that dishware. Beautiful.

Happy Thursday!

Inspired by Movies: Ahhh, Mr. Bond

Good Morning,

No last week’s loves this week…I wanted to get to a post that I meant to get to last week but didn’t. Two words, James Bond.

So, let’s be honest, there is very little cooler than the James Bond franchise.  Last week while by parents were here I got to experience a lot of Bond.  We went to the TIFF Bell Lightbox exhibit 50 Years of Bond Style, which I would highly recommend if you have enjoyed any of the Bond films.  It showcases the gadgets, the fashion, the cars, you name it.  It’s a small exhibit but worth checking out for sure.  Then we went to see Skyfall in IMAX (which I had never done before, but would certainly do again).  I always leave those movies wishing I knew any guy in real life with that kind of sophisticated confidence.  Maybe this is why I am single…unrealistically high expectations.

Today I’ve put together a little Bond mood board….

I also put together a Bond Girl inspired outfit.  A little sexy, a little bling-y, but still classy….

p.s I officially hate the new Polyvore templates. Gotta find a work around.

That’s it for today….tomorrow I’ll be having a little giveaway so stay tuned!

Inspired by Movies – Under the Tuscan Sun

Good morning! Today I’m talking about one of my favourite films, “Under the Tuscan Sun”.  I mean who hasn’t had a time in their lives where they wanted to run away and buy a villa in Tuscany? Not only is this film set in a beautiful location with a great storyline, but I loved watching the transformation of the villa as she makes it her own.  I love movies where either the location or spaces in the movies are a character themselves.  SJP always said that New York City was the fifth character in “Sex and the City”, and I feel similarly about the villa in this movie.

The Synopsis (of sorts):

After going through a divorce, she buys a run down villa in Tuscany on a whim….

She does some renos….

And lots of cleaning….

And makes it cozy…

She learns to cook…

She enjoys her balcony…

And makes new friends and drinks lots of wine.

Ok, so there is a lot more to it than that but you get the gist.  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. And I loved the laid-back attitude in both the Italian lifestyle as well as in the decor. Rustic materials, with muted colours paired with a few pops of colour thrown in.  Here is my take on a Tuscan-inspired room:

1. Italian Wood and Iron Chandelier, Circa Antiques via One Kings Lane 2. Clay tiles by Stoneshield 3. Portou Oak Armchair by Rathwood Furniture 4. Lytton Cocktail Table by Vanguard Furniture 5. Atelier Chesterfield Anthropologie 6. Missoni Pillow 7. Benjamin Moore Desert Green Paint Colour 8. Tuscan Landscape by Marlene Robbins

Oh and did I mention you can rent the Villa Bramasole where Under the Tuscan Sun was filmed as a vacation home…..if you decide to do that, please note that if required I could fit in a really large suitcase (take me with you!).

AND, now I’m craving wine….

Ciao Bellas!

Grace Kelly – Style Icon

Good Morning!  I apologize for my absence this week, I’ve had my parents here visiting from New Brunswick, which has kept me busy!  We had a great visit, going to movies, out for dinner, hosting a lovely brunch for my friends, and taking in some things going on in the City. On of the things I most enjoyed was the Princess Grace exhibit at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.  If you love her movies or are a fan of classic style, I would highly recommend it.  The Princess of Monaco would have been 82 this past weekend and would have no doubt still been a major style icon today.  Today’s post highlights some of the her pictures over of the years as well as some images from the glamorous Monaco, the place she called home for much of her life.  Hope you all enjoy.

Have a great day!
