Amaze-“Balls” DIY Holiday Wreath!

Good Morning love muffins!

Happy Wednesday! Remember last week when I posted the Amaze-balls Holiday Wreath Ideas?  Well, it inspired a little holiday DIY project.  Check out below for my fun little how-to….

Pretty decent for a first try, huh?  It was relatively easy and only took about an hour.  And the best thing?  I got all the supplies at the dollar store and the whole thing cost under $10 (including the glue gun which I also got at the dollar store a long time ago).  The only hiccup I encountered was that at the end, I was short a few balls! Which, if you follow me on twitter, you already know from my online dating tweets…. bahahaha…sorry, couldn’t help it. I meant Christmas balls, obviously.  My advice, always have more balls than you think you need (wink, wink). Seriously, it’s like I’m a thirteen year old boy.

Anyway, it was easy, cheap and turned out totally pretty in the end, so you should try it out! And it gives you a good excuse to make balls jokes….which is clearly why I did it.

And don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a pair of One of a Kind Show tickets….contest end on Thursday at 10 pm!

XOXO,

Site Redesign and Holiday Recap!

It has been awhile since I’ve posted, I’ve been enjoying the holidays in New Brunswick, but I’m back in Toronto today and ready to get on a (somewhat) normal schedule.  You will notice that I’ve done a bit of a redesign of the blog.  With a little time to play around I decided to change up the look of the blog so it’s a bit more reflective of me and also my content.  Not sure if it’s the final version, I’m still a bit unsure about the background of the header, but I would encourage and appreciate thoughts and comments (positive or otherwise).  I’ll need to finalize in the next couple of days because I have to order some new business cards for Alt Summit!

Now a little recap on my holidays….I arrived home on the 22nd to unusually warm weather and no snow….booooo. Then miraculously I woke up on the 23rd to a solid layer of white on everything! Here are some shots I took around my home town…. That same day, my mom and I stopped into the local antique store.  Holy crapballs batman, there were so many cool things and for great deals.  The store is in an old house which is FULL of stuff.  I’m talkin’ stuff in EVERY corner, hooks on the walls with stuff hanging on them, stuff under stuff and over stuff…. totally freakin’ FULL.  Plus two garages full of the big stuff. If only I had a u-haul and a personal driver to bring it all back to Toronto for me. On the other hand, I have no damn idea where I would store it all once it got here….anyhoo.  There were a lot of pretty and interesting things there but here are some of the highlights…..

GORGEOUS old church doors.  These are the kind of doors you build a house/room around, no?

Harper’s Bazar mag from 1894…..so cool.

It’s hard to tell with all the items on top but this dressing table is gorgeous with the marble tops and beautiful wood.

Oooh gold flatwear. Entire set, including wood case – $175.  A steal!

pink and gold you say?  How could I not love?

Gotta love an old jukebox.

There is something about the pondering look on this woman’s face which I’m drawn to.

A little too Rocky Horror for my tastes, but an interesting piece none the less…..

This place has so much lovely, lovely china.  Seriously, you could host an intimate dinner for 80 to 100 people with the beautiful china in this store.

Tell me this amazing chaise isn’t screaming for a Recreated re-upholstery job?

And let me tell you these pieces are only a tiny smattering of the finds at this store! .  A veritable goldmine I would say. In the end, I only bought….

this plate

and also antlers like these….for $10.

I’m going to paint them and put them up, just not sure where yet.  Needless to say they weren’t exactly “pack-able” so I’ll have to wait for these babies until the spring when my parents come to visit!

Hope you all had a great holiday!

XO,

Vintage Christmas Gift Tags

Morning!  Now that I’ve started my Christmas shopping, I’ve also started to think about wrapping.  In doing so I’ve come across some really beautiful Christmas gift tags.  And while I love the fun tags with modern fonts and bright colours….I was drawn to the vintage gift tags I saw. Maybe it’s because whenever I think of the holidays I immediately want to live here….

or here…..

Hmm. or anywhere else as idyllically “christmas” as those places!  Normally I’m not drawn to the uber traditional but these gift tags really caught my eye…..

Booze and Bake 2011

Good Morning Lovelies! This past Saturday I took part in an annual event that my friends and I affectionately call “Booze and Bake”.  The name pretty much gives it away but this is a brief outline of how it works.

You bring:

  • A recipe (or more) and ingredients for Christmas baked goods
  • A signature holiday drink
  • A love of Christmas movies (specific ones…see below)

You get:

  • A tin of Christmas baked goods (the equivalent to you baking for 2 days)
  • A little tipsy
  • A day of fun with your friends

It’s such a great time…here’s little summary of this year’s event.

We started with this….

Added a little this…

And probably the most important part of the day are holiday flicks that we watch while we bake.  Every year we screen the Holiday, which is pretty much my fave Christmas movie of all time.  I’m only a little bit obsessed.  Also, Love Actually.  Amazing movie.

Despite the drinking, the baking part went pretty well….with 2 minor exceptions:

1) an entire egg (complete with shell) going into the mixer

2) accidentally quadrupling the recipe resulting in an overflowing mixer…..

a flour explosion….

And a massive amount of dough (there were at least 2 more logs this big…)

But regardless, the results were amazing….

Another successful event! I’m already planning my gym trips to compensate for my indulgences.

Have a great day!

Sparkle, Sparkle, Sparkle

Good Morning!

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to my followers/visitors in the US! With the holiday season fast approaching (uh…oh wait, it’s here…), it’s time to address my obsession with all things sparkly.  I have this obsession year round, but the holidays seem to make it conveniently appropriate to (over)use sparkles with abandon. Bottom line is that….

First, lets focus on fashion. I covet all these lovely sparkly pieces….

Sequins too bad I have so few places to don these beauts…find the deets on my polyvore.

And now for decor…holiday or otherwise
